Outreach for Emotional Difficulties

CHTOPOPC Community Mental Health - Linda Foxworth, 35 Thompson Street, Suite 204, Pittsboro; 542-9891. This program provides counseling and outreach services for children 0-5 with emotional and behavioral problems. Families served by POP include those faced with poverty, domestic violence and abuse and neglect issues. POP focuses on the child's issues but also includes the family and child care providers in the treatment and healing process. Services include weekly play therapy, modeling of positive parenting behavior and parenting education.

Specialized Therapy Using Horses

Heads Up! Therapeutic Horseback Riding ProgramValerie Sills 919-542-6207 or Lisa Reynolds lreynolds@cheerful.com. Heads Up! provides weekly therapy sessions to about 20 children ages 2-5 with developmental disabilities. Children are transported to the horse farm from The Chatham Child Development Center by the Chatham Transit Network.

With a primary emphasis on developing motor skills, Heads Up takes a holistic approach and might work on language, cognitive, fine motor, social and behavioral skills.
